Digital effects have their place, but audiences feel the difference when something is real. We create practical, chewy, solid things that actors can truly interact with.

Why Wales?

Wales has a deep artisan heritage — forge work, textile, carving, metalwork — and a screen industry that's outgrowing the infrastructure available to it. Afanc exists to close that gap. World-class practical fabrication, rooted here, serving Welsh production and international work alike.

Founded on Excalibur

Afanc was established as part of the production of Excalibur — a £13 million Welsh fantasy feature built on authentic Arthurian mythology. The workshop was created to serve that production and to outlast it.

This is not a department. It is infrastructure.
